Novaris has developed a new range of hybrid spark gap filters designed for standard switchboard depths with current ratings up to 63A.

A hybrid spark gap uses both MOV and spark gap technology with a triggering circuit to provide robust protection while also providing a very low let-through voltage. This combination will ignore LV continuous overvoltages while also negating the effects of follow-on current exhibited by standard spark gaps.

Solitary spark gaps have poor let through voltages due to arc establishment time but the low pass filtering circuit of the HSG filter negates these effects.

The HSG filters are recommended for locations that have poor voltage regulation and require a more robust surge protection approach.
